Destiny: Rising, a free-to-play game by Bungie, is teaming up with Chinese giant NetEase to create the mobile game for Android and iOS, with a closed beta scheduled for November.
Destiny: Rising Brings Bungieโs Saga To Mobile
Since its launch in 2017 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and later with its expansion to PS5 and Series X/S, Destiny 2 has become Bungieโs flagship title and the culmination of its largest project.
The Final Shape expansion was the culmination of the saga that began in 2014 with Destiny; however, this content has only been a stepping stone in the franchise’s broader expansion plans.
Destiny 2 will continue with a new model of two smaller expansions per year starting in 2025, but now the saga extends to other formats with the first Destiny game for mobile devices.
Bungie has entrusted its flagship saga to NetEase, creators of the upcoming Marvel Rivals, to develop the first Destiny mobile game, with Bungieโs constant support and supervision.
Destiny: Rising will be a free-to-play game set in an alternate timeline that explores events following the Dark Age. It features an original story, though familiar faces from the saga will make appearances.
Predefined Characters, Multiple Modes & New Mechanics
One of the major innovations is the ability to choose between various characters, each with their own unique abilities, rather than the customizable protagonist that has defined the saga so far.
This change will be accompanied by revamped gameplay, combining Campaign missions, cooperative six-player modes, and both Player vs. Environment and Versus modes.
Co-op play will be essential in Destiny: Rising, where players will also have the option to create clans, design shared spaces, and enjoy new mechanics adapted to the mobile format.
Destiny: Rising will allow players to switch between first-person and third-person perspectives, and early images suggest a visual presentation that rivals the main series entries.
And of course, the weapons! Players will have access to a customizable arsenal with numerous possible combinations, all designed to provide the most immersive and fun mobile experience possible.
Weโll be able to experience it with the closed beta in November, with registration available through the gameโs official website, which will be available soon.
This news contrasts with the rumored Destiny 3, codenamed โProject Payback,โ which was reportedly canceled by Bungie following the layoff of 17% of its workforce.
