September is bringing the Rise of Iron expansion to Destiny on PS4 and Xbox One and Game Informer magazine is featuring the new content in its September issue. In advance of the release, a host of information has been revealed on how the expansion will change the experience for players. Check out the highlights of what Rise of Iron will be bringing to Guardians this fall and beyond.
Rise of Iron Gameplay Information
- Character level stays at 40
- Light level gets an increase to 385 and then to 400 when the hard mode raid releases after launch.
- The expansion will included new raids, strikes and new crucible modes
- There will be new weapons and gear as expected across the rarity tiers.
- Rise of Iron record book will record your task progression through the expansion. Reaching completion milestones nets you various in game rewards.
- Ornaments are a new addition and allow players to change the geometry and appearance of gear and weapons.
- Artifacts are getting an overhaul, with 8 new class free artifacts included. Every week an NPC named Tyra Karn will have an artifact task for you to complete after which you may choose 1 of 3 available artifacts. Over several weeks, players will be able to eventually collect them all.
- The new artifacts feature game changing abilities, such as turning enemies into friendlies via melee or eliminating your super in exchange for more grenades, melees and stat boosts. Each artifact has a lore flavor emulating a Lord from the expansion’s story.
- There is a brand new story for players to experience and a brand new Gjallarwing Sparrow, as seen on a recent livestream.

Beyond Rise of Iron, Destiny will see a return of the Halloween themed Festival of the Lost in the fall, as well as the entertaining Sparrow League Racing event in December. All of a sudden, Destiny is going to be a hopping hub yet again for Guardians starting this September.
