Have you any friends who have been thinking about giving Destiny a try? Bungie has revealed today the teased and awaited Destiny Refer-A-Friend program in an effort to bring new players to the fold as well as encourage more camaraderie and openness. Bungie’s official Twitter sent this out to the Guardian masses today:

Clicking on the Refer-A-Friend link takes you to a landing page where you can sign up for the program which is explained as follows:
Refer-A-Friend Details
- Existing players can recruit friends to the game which makes both players eligible for exclusive in game rewards.
- Both the recruiter and recruited must log in through Bungie and invite/accept invite to link their accounts together.
- The recruited friends must purchase Destiny: The Taken King and both players must be on the same platform to be eligible for the rewards.
- The Speaker will give you a special quest that when completed with your linked friend, earns you both special rewards.
- Player rewards range from special emotes such as Duo Dance and High Five, unique emblem and shader, exclusive sparrow or 1 of 3 legendary swords.
Recently, Fextralife community member Backlot Basher wrote an article exploring the potential of the Refer-A-Friend program. We now know what some of the initial rewards will be. What we will be looking for next will be how the co-op relationships will evolve next. Will they be short term rewards only or will we get to see long term support of the new buddy system? Will it only be eligible when the referred player buys and activates a new game or will players eventually be able to buddy up with existing rookies who have already purchased the game?
We’ll continue to keep track on how the program evolves for players as well as any reward updates! In the meantime check out Bungie’s official Refer-A-Friend Help Page for more details, visit the Destiny Wiki for more and keep checking with us for more news!

Care to do a writeup for it? Counterpoints are always useful for helping people make more informed choices.
Well I managed to get someone (took two days lurking on the Destiny forums) and going through all of it, really unless you are looking for some free emotes or the sparrow I would say don’t bother. I mean I do dig the shader with my IB set but really nothing worth getting. The sword is just a dumb down sword of what you get from Shaxx with 20 points of less light.
The two emotes are kind of cool though awkward since they are meant to be done with two people unless you like high fiving the air. The sparrow really is the only great reward and that you can only get by completing everything else. I dig the blue lights kind of Back to the Future looking to me but yeah, not really worth the trouble to be perfectly honest.

Apart from nearly every MMO released since 2004, sure.
Destiny needing to play for more people when you have to spend an extra £20 every few months to stay relevant in the world?
Damn, who’d have thought it
Now all I need to do is make friends & convince them to spend $60.
Let’s do this thing! This is a really cool thing, never seen before performed on any games except Destiny. PRAISE THE SUN
