Death Note is preparing its leap to PS5 and PS4 with Killer Within, a game being developed by Bandai Namco, which has just been officially registered.

The enormous success of Death Note has already spawned an animated series, a live-action series, three films, and countless merchandise, as well as a Western remake that wasn’t very well received.

While Netflix is working on a new live-action series, it has just been revealed that Death Note will soon have a video game for PS5 and PS4. A huge surprise that has fans buzzing.

A recent listing on Taiwan’s Digital Game Rating Committee confirms the existence of the first major Death Note game, developed by Bandai Namco.

The announcement states that this title will be coming to PS4 and PS5, without mentioning any other platforms or giving a possible release date, although timelines suggest it could arrive around 2025.

According to the registration, the Committee declares that the game’s story will contain elements of “violence and antisocial behavior,” with a recommended rating for ages 15 and up.

The final title will be Death Note: Killer Within, as publisher Shueisha registered that trademark for the video game in Europe, the United States, and Japan on June 12.

In truth, combat and direct action don’t really fit with Death Note’s story, as its concept would be closer to RPGs or even visual novels.

Would Be The First Released in the West

Specifically, Death Note follows Light Yagami, a student who comes into contact with a demon and his cursed notebook: anyone whose name is written in it will die under the described circumstances.

As Yagami’s ambition grows, a mysterious detective named L begins tracking him, leading to a complex chess match that spans several years.

This new Death Note game would be the first in the series released in the West, although there were three Japan-exclusive titles for the Nintendo DS, all developed by Konami.

Death Note: Kira Game (2007) allowed players to choose between Kira or L, within a conversational adventure that skimmed over the original story, though it stood out for its comic-style art.

Also in 2007, Death Note: Successors to L was released, offering more complex gameplay in the form of a turn-based adventure, with Japan as the board.

The trilogy concluded with L: The Prologue to Death Note in 2008, focusing on L’s early years as a detective, with puzzles but lacking the intrigue of the main plot.

Characters from the Death Note series also appeared in the storyline of Jump Force, a fighting game featuring Shonen Jump characters
