Darkest Dungeon 2 has announced the release date for its new content, including its first paid DLC and a new free game mode, currently exclusive to PC.

Darkest Dungeon 2 New Game Mode

Following its launch earlier this year, Darkest Dungeon 2 is set to introduce its first major paid DLC alongside a free game mode and an adventure module. Red Hook Studios has revealed the release date for all this content, which will initially launch on PC (the game is also available on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch).

The free game mode, Kingdoms, reimagines the original structure of Darkest Dungeon 2, challenging players to defend the kingdom from new enemies. The mode is divided into three adventure modules, with the first, Hunger of the Beast Clan, launching on January 27 for PC (console release to follow). Two additional adventure modules will be released later, all free for existing game owners.

New Region and Character

Also arriving on January 27 for PC (with a later console release) is Inhuman Bondage, the first paid DLC for Darkest Dungeon 2. This expansion introduces:

• The Catacombs, a new mini-region to explore.
• The Abomination, a new playable hero designed in collaboration with the Kickstarter campaign backers. This character features unique mechanics, trinkets, signature items, palettes, weapon sets, and a fully narrated origin story with playable flashback encounters.

A Blend of Free and Paid Content

The combination of free and paid updates reflects Red Hook Studios’ commitment to delivering fresh and engaging experiences for the player community.

• Kingdoms, with its three-module structure, not only extends the game’s longevity but also brings gameplay mechanics closer to the original title.
• Inhuman Bondage adds a layer of strategic depth with the introduction of The Abomination and the new Catacombs region.
