A remastered version of Dark Souls III is rumored to be in development, aiming to enhance the game’s resolution and introduce other improvements. As the final installment of the trilogy, this release would complete the series’ remasters.

The third entry in the Dark Souls franchise remains the best-selling title of the series, which gave rise to the Soulslike genre following Demon’s Souls in 2011.

While the Demon’s Souls remake remains a PlayStation 5 exclusive, it seems FromSoftware is preparing to reintroduce one of its most beloved and commercially successful games. With the ongoing trend of remakes and remasters alongside new IPs, many had anticipated this development.

The enduring popularity of Dark Souls III is something Bandai Namco and FromSoftware are likely keen to leverage. Including expansions like Ashes of Ariandel and The Ringed City would make the relaunch even more appealing.

Dark Souls III on 60 FPS

This information comes from insider Nick Baker, who mentioned on the XboxEra podcast that the Dark Souls III remaster is real. While he provided little additional context, he confirmed the project’s existence but withheld further details.

A remastered Dark Souls III could deliver 60 FPS on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, addressing limitations on PS4 and Xbox One, where even the Game of the Year edition is capped at 1080p.

Both Dark Souls and Dark Souls II have already received remastered editions, making it a matter of time before the third game followed suit.

The remaster’s development is reportedly underway, but the release date or announcement timeline remains unknown. The Game Awards 2024 might be a fitting venue for such a reveal.

Interestingly, this year’s event has sparked controversy due to a recent rule change allowing DLC, expansions, remakes, and remasters to compete for awards.
