Namco Bandai announced today that From Software’s upcoming Dark Souls 3 will release in April, 2016 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. After being announced for release in Japan on March 24th, we now have a date for the rest of the world.
As fires fade and the world falls into ruin, developer FROMSOFTWARE and director Hidetaka Miyazaki continue their critically-acclaimed and genre-defining series with Dark Souls III. Fans and newcomers alike will get lost in the games hallmark rewarding gameplay and immersive graphics. Now only embers remain…
Dark Souls 3 looks to evolve the series further through several changes along with a return of familiar mechanics. Here are some highlights of how the game will evolve and stay the same:
- Fast travel is available from the get go as it was in Dark Souls 2. Those hoping for a return to the Lordvessel will have to wait.
- Stat reallocation will also make an appearance. While not necessarily the same Soul Vessel item as in Dark Souls 2, the option will be there according to director Hidetaka Miyazaki.
- New Game Plus is back to no one’s surprise. Similar to Dark Souls 2’s New Game Plus, enemy placements will change, and new items will be available. Bonfire ascetics however will not be returning.
- Durability will be tweaked making equipment not as brittle as in 2, but not as unbreakable as in Dark Souls.
- Summonings and invasions will not be changed to mimic Bloodborne. Matching will be based on Soul Level again and not Soul Memory. They will remain the same familiar process, but invasions will no longer require the use of a consumable item that must be farmed.
- Illusory walls are back, again unsurprisingly. Activating them will go back to the prior methods of attacking rather than pressing an interact button. It is Miyazaki’s wish to go back to the feeling of accidental discovery.
- Magic will be now tied to a mana bar.
Now we have a release date and a date with death.

I’m really excited about both, but as NPC mentioned, since the BB DLC is sooner it is foremost in my mind.
I’m okay with waiting until April next year for DaS3 if the BB DLC is everything I hope it will be.
I do wish we had a specific date for DaS3 though. Putting it on the calendar just make it feel more permanent… although I haven’t bought a 2016 calendar yet, but at least mentally I like having that milestone and watching it approach. Maybe I should make a huge paper chain to countdown the days to the BB DLC and DaS3 releases.
I’m glad we have at least a month for the game release. There are other games coming out next year that I am interested in but I haven’t heard any dates for. Likely those games won’t be bought by me until later in the year anyway, since there won’t be anything that will take me away from the new Souls game, and if I need a break after a few months of solid DaS3 I’d likely play BB.
It would have been nice to have a worldwide release of the game on the same day, but if the rest of the world gets it early in April it won’t be a big deal for me.

Probably data-mining.
Also, after beta-testing DS2 for almost until 1st DLC, I’m fine with later release then Japan. The game might be playable, but we will see some drastic patches for sure, let’s hope a month is enough. It will be easier for the devs to listen to their native audience first in order to tune out the game.
Just google how different DS1 was when it released, I’m very glad I got to the game when PC version launched.
I’m really looking forward to DkS3!
I’m pleased that most of the DkS2 features will be back in III.
owever, the possibitity to ascetic a bonfire early was a nice way to get better weapons or items
After all, it was not a free gift, though. One had to manage to beat a much harder area for those items.
What I hate in bloodborne is that there is de facto no possibitity through advanced playing to get better stuff early.
This made a third run most boring (after I managed to bear two runs).
I really hope that in DkSIII are possibilities to get things early once you have the skills or patience or knowledge.
Pretty sure I won’t touch BB anymore, even the DLC I won’t buy. it was so much testing my patience after two full runs I was completely exhausted.

It’s sooner and only natural.

Not only that, but they’ve set the exact date for Japan, the rest of just get to know it’s sometime in April. I’m not much of a fan of one region getting a game earlier than the rest, no matter who benefits. Cause it’s kind of giving one part of your fanbase a reward and the rest just gets the shaft.
I’m slightly upset that Japan is getting it first. Either way, I’m well excited for it. Bring on the Bonfires!
still don’t know why pc version in always next…
Is it weird that I’m looking forward to the Bloodborne DLC more than Dark Souls 3?
