Today we have collected some new pre-release information regarding the Dark Souls 3 DLC, Ashes of Ariandel, specifically covering the dedicated PvP zone the Hollow Arena as well as some new pieces of info on weaponry and spells. Be advised, several spoilers follow as well as the mechanics of the PvP Arena.
New Weapons & Shields
- Valor Heart: fast blade and shield combo that features a guard breaking skill and a versatile moveset with several blocking capabilities.
- Onyx Blade: large greatsword that applies its own fire weapon buff, features base dark damage.
- Follower Javelin: a type of spear that can be thrown like a projectile. Replenishes after a throw.
- Quakestone Hammer: Great Hammer with a Quake skill that is effective for taking out groups
- Crow Quills: a new paired weapon that combines a rapier with a fistful of throwing knives in the left hand, but some of the rapier attacks resemble straight sword swings.
- Millwood Battle Axe: Axe category weapon
- Crow Talons: a new Claw weapon
- Follower Torch: seen in earlier videos, this torch is a viable weapon that features a fire breathing ability.
- Millwood Greatbow: large Greatbow that packs a punch
- Earth Seeker: Greataxe category weapon
- Pyromancer’s Parting Flame: new Flame category item with Estus replenish capabilities
- Follower Shield
- Irithyll Oak Shield

New Armor Sets
- Millwood Set: a location themed piece, heavier armor that features antlers in the helm
- Follower Set: another location themed piece with fur lining, and a long pointed helm
- Slave Set

New Spells
- Frozen Weapon: this sorcery applies a frost buff to weapons, enabling them to inflict frostbite buildup on enemies.
- Snap Freeze: powerful mist spell that builds frost quickly on foes
- Way of White Corona: seen in screenshots, this circlet is now a projectile disc miracle
- Floating Chaos: this pyromancy places a floating flame which then targets a foe with 3 successive shots.

Hollow Arena
- There are 2 game types in the arena: Duel and Brawl. All matches are timed events. Once access to the arena is obtained through the DLC, players will be able to teleport directly there via bonfire.
- Duels are a single to the death event, which end when one player dies. Players are not able to use Estus during a duel but can use a limited amount of Ashen Estus.
- In a Brawl, players fight and die over and over, and the player with the most kills at the end of a match is the victor. Brawls have limited Estus use for both types. Brawls have several different formats, team based 2v2 and 3v3 or more chaotic formats like 4 player and 6 player free for alls. Upon dying players spawn back in with a potent Wrath of Gods blast to prevent spawn camping.
- Similar to the Battle of Stoicism in Dark Souls, there will be a floating crown mechanic to indicate the player in the lead.
- There will be leaderboard type tracking function that allocates Badges for success in combat.
- The arena will enable password matchmaking with friends, or with random combatants.
- Kiln of Flame is the present map, there is the potential for future maps added.
Ashes of Ariandel is the first of 2 DLCs for the game and releases next Tuesday, October 25th for PS4, PC, and Xbox One and is bringing an entirely new location to explore, with new bosses, weapons and more in addition to the Hollow Arena. Lol ok, I adjusted them to better suit your more astute observations, but I must say my own assessments weren’t that far off ha.
The footage so far looks amazing, I’m really surprised at how user-friendly this stuff is too. I really didn’t think they would bother, looking at the older games. Having the option to put passwords for tournaments sounds great.
The only things that bothers me is how much control you will actually have, can you form a ”team” and then enter the 2 v 2 battle. Also, how will the Dark Souls net-code handle this, I have pretty high-end internet and when doing Aldrich 3 v 3 the connection is much less than optimal. I guess that’s why the arena is so basic, still having 12 people in a world will certainly be something else.
Crow blades, axes, pyroflames…
Gimme ladle! Where is the ladle!
>
it was +6 in one of the videos (3rd one) so it’s a regular titanite weapon it seems.
also… did anyone else see the greatbows weapon art make the arrow explode after hitting the ground?

Ack, some things need correcting here:
Crow Quill isn’t just a thrusting sword, it’s a new paired weapon that combines a rapier with a fistful of throwing knives in the left hand, but some of the rapier attacks resemble straight sword swings.
Valorheart has blocking properties on several of its attacks, including the jump attack. I think that’d be a pretty big selling point on it.
Onyx Blade’s buff actually adds fire damage for some godforsaken reason, but the blade naturally has dark damage.
Snap Freeze doesn’t do any damage of its own, it just inflicts frostbite buildup.
Floating Chaos is basically a fireball turret that launches three successive shots at nearby foes, should be pretty useful.
The crowquill needs to be infusable. D= but I just know it’s going to be a twinkling titanite weapon.
now that i think about it remember that voodoo the pyromancer dressed a corynx was doing in the untended graves maybe that i the new pyromancy glove battle art when it works
i think you have to kill enemies to get echoes of death so you can sacrifice them with the battle art
anyway still hoping for something new and useful for dark builds the great sword is cool but will probably never use it
>
I Corrected that in my previous post.
I’m excited seeing all this new Lore.
>
i believe he ddnt traveled there but he was born there
he is my favorite character after aldritch but the fact he spams those two swords just piss me off
I’m wondering if these Millwood Knights who’s weapons were blessed by an Ethereal Oak were being blessed by a spirit tree?
Glad we are getting more Farron Lore and a treatment for the Pus of Man in A Follower torch desc.
So Sulyvahn was born the Painted World this reinforces how major of a char he was. thanks to the frost weapon desc.

hope 1 is the frost scythe 1 is a dark staff and 1 is a dark talisman else wish at least 1 is a dark catalyst that casts miracles as well
i assume one of the sets remaining is that knight’s set who used the sword in the trailer
i have a bad feeling the talons and the rapier might be the boss weapon for the huge corvian and that the frost blade might be from the scythe girl
Im not gonna lie…im one of the biggest critics of DkS 3. It’s the worst of the series for me. But i’ll admit that this arena video actually looks fun…i like that “Dark” sword aswell.

15 weapons were confirmed, 10 have been spoiled so far if you don’t count shields and 12-ish if you do. Of course, we also aren’t sure how many of the revealed ones are boss weapons, and I sure as shit haven’t seen a frost scythe yet.
There should be anywhere from 3-5 more weapons to find.
>
do you think this is all the stuff or there is more to be found?
can i get my hopes up for another catalyst?
>
No info on how levels work, yet. At least, not that I’ve seen.
Does anyone know how the matchmaking will work? I.e.: will it maintain DS3’s current soul/upgrade-level system or will it use DS1’s level-tier based system?

it says echos of death not fp so i guess you have to kill enemies to use it
man the frost blade spell is so disappointing i really hope i get some hexes in the next dlc
well at least the arena seems good
That skill is odd. Wouldn’t this allow for infinite estus? Use skill, gain blue estus, use blue estus, use skill, gain orange estus, use skill gain orange estus?
the guy probably only had base reqs for the spell. And if it still appears to suck, the new weapons will be AWESOME.

Here you go:

probably a new gesture still damn man 25 damage is just silly its probably gonna be a useless spell
>
You are correct, it is a new pyro flame. I’m just about to edit in the video where it’s mentioned, but apparently it has the ability to
restore your estus usage
Which confuses the hell out of me, but you know.

Also, fourth spell has already been spoiled. It’s not a hex, and IMO is underwhelming:
Frost buff spell for your weapons, 15 int requirement.
Crow Quills looks nice. E/C str/dex a new dex weapon apparently.
definitely a new pyro glove. Before they tried to cast that turret fireball for the second time, he did…something with his hands I’ve never seen before.
