Cyberpunk 2077 has had its second largest number of Steam players since launch with update 2.0 and expansion Phantom Liberty.
Cyberpunk 2077 Has Major Comeback with Second Highest Steam Player Peak Since Launch
The Action-RPG Cyberpunk 2077 has had a roaring comeback since its problematic launch back in 2020. The game which ultimately led to it being delisted on platforms has made some serious strides since then. With it’s recent overhaul with update 2.0 and it’s expansion Phantom Liberty the title has now seen the largest number of players on Steam since its release.
That’s pretty major as it’s not often you see a title that can redeem itself after a not-so-positive experience on release. But CD Projekt Red seems to have done so. The game has seen a number of post-launch fixes and update 2.0 has overhauled the perk system plus added vehicle combat and more.

Steam has seen a new peak of 246,754 players around the time Phantom Liberty launched, which is the highest it has been since the game was released. While not quite near the all-time high of over 1 million concurrent players when it launched, that’s still quite a milestone considering its negative press due to bugs and issues. The last major boost in players was during the debut of the Netflix animation Edgerunners with around 85,000.
Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty has now extended the experience, gaining a further storyline, a new area called Dogtown and even a new celebrity character played by Idris Elba. Don’t worry Johnny Silverhand aka Keanu Reeves is still a major element in the expansion. The DLC follows a spy-themed thriller with some new experiences such as side-missions and gigs to take on.
Cyberpunk Sequel
According to developer CD Projekt Red, Phantom Liberty and 2.0 will be the last of the major updates for Cyberpunk 2077. In a recent article by PC Gamer, studio director Gabe Amantangelo shared they will be moving on from CP2077. Already on the horizon is CP 2, or currently known as Project Orion:
2.0 and Phantom Liberty are the last big updates. We’ll do a little something more, but those are the last big ones. Then it’s Cyberpunk 2. Or ‘Orion,’ I should say, whatever we end up naming it.

CD Projekt Red aren’t only working on the next Cyberpunk but also new Witcher games, continuing the saga and The Witcher Remake.
