CODE VEIN New Screenshots Reveal Winter Level, Animation & More!

Bandai Namco has just dropped a bunch of new screenshots of CODE VEIN,  their upcoming anime-souls, action-RPG.

CODE VEIN – Coming Next Year!

These recent images showcases a new “Ridge of Frozen Souls” level and character, who is called Nicola Karnstein. As well as CODE VEIN‘s  opening animation and its “Ivy Blood Veil” and “Blood Code” features.

Let’s start off with its new locale, the Ridge of Frozen Souls. It is described as a perilous mountain pass with precarious ledges and limited visibility. All capped in deep snow with an ice-covered cave.

But players will not be alone as hulking armored beasts lie in wait there. Using their speed and monstrous shields to crash into its victims.

Nicola Karnstein

Next, we have the new character, Nicola Karnstein. Traveling together with his older sister Mia Karnstein, throughout CODE VEIN‘s  lands while looking out for each other.

Ivy Blood Veil & Blood Code Features

As we all know, Blood Veils are crucial tools for surviving CODE VEIN‘s  harsh world. Allowing players to unleash powerful Blood Drain abilities that also recovers Ichor, necessary for Skills. Here, we’re given a look at the new “Ivy Blood Veil“, which summons lethal thorns from the ground and can attack foes at a distance.

There will be various Blood Veils players can wield to suit the situation, including the Stinger, Hound, and Ogre, among others. With each having its own level of Power and Range.

And next up is the “Blood Code” feature, which is an equippable special type of blood embedded with the skill of its original owner. Acquiring these enables players to utilize the Blood Code’s inherent skills and are useful in battles and places, depending on the type.

Opening Animation

Now we come to CODE VEIN‘s  opening animation. That is handled by Japanese animation studio, Ufotable, whose portfolio include the Tales of Zestiria the X  and God Eater  animes.

CODE VEIN  will release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC via Steam in early 2018.


Fextralife had the opportunity to interview CODE VEIN‘s  Producer Keita Iizuka and Director Hiroshi Yoshimura at TGS 2017. As well as getting over an hour of hands-on playthrough with the game, where we also learned 10 new things that you might not know.

  1. Wow, these screenshots actual tell us quite a bit. I can see several new outfits for the PC, we can see a bit of the hub town, and those menus would tell me a lot about mechanics, if I could read Japanese… That opening animation looks great, and if it’s being made by the guys who did the God Eater one, it should be great. Most surprisingly, it gives a look at what the red-headed-dude-with-the-wolf-heads was doing before he became a revenant.

    There’s also a couple of new locales in there. So far we got Ruined City, Ruined City on Fire, Snowy Mountains, and Ice Caves, and now we have Ruined City with trees, and Ice Forest. It’s not much more diversity, but it’s a step in the right direction.

    EDIT: We can also see a few different halberd in the weapon shop. Also, I’m not sure if that last screenshot is just a dark corner of a building, or a night locale. Hopefully the later.
