Via Famitsu, Bandai Namco has introduced players to 2 of the key characters in the upcoming Action RPG Code Vein. From the developers of God Eater, Code Vein combines stylized animation with Souls inspired combat in a world where vampires, known as revenants, stand against mindless beasts who who ravaged the world.
Code Vein Characters
The two key characters introduced are named Mia Karnstein and Yakumo Shinonome, and they are prominent figures in past trailers. Mia is a female vampire who wanders with her younger brother in search of the land of Vein. She is protective of her family and would do anything to keep them safe. Mia wields a bayonet-style weapon that is also able to attack from a distance. Her special attack, what the game terms a Blood Veil, is called Stinger and is a long reaching tail attack that is scorpion like.
Yakumo Shinonome is a former mercernary who is well regarded by others. He wields a sword that has the appearance of a giant blade. His Blood Veil is called Hounds and turns his jacket into a wolf’s head which can then be used for close attacks.
Code Vein is going to have a strong story focus to go with the action sensibilities and each character is going to have their own unique gameplay style, not dissimilar from Final Fantasy XV. Each character has their own backstory and Blood Veil that makes them unique in how they handle. If you want to see more of the game in action, check out their most recent gameplay reveal that showed more of the Dark Souls inspired combat.

Well, this is not a Dark Anime but you should watch it…..it’s called Ergo Proxy, maybe you already know it….and it’s a Dark Cyber Punk Anime

Those are just party members. The dude on the left in the second picture is presumably the PC. We don’t know anything about customization, or really anything else, right now.
Although, it kinda sounds like we’ll be able to play as the party members at some point.
Ha…Clare…Claymore…old memories indeed!
now should I understand that you will not have character customization in this game other than gear?
bah…I get less and less intesrested as they reveal more and more of the game: the combat looks uninspired and floaty…no customization….this looks meh whereas I was very excited initially based on images…

already did. Pretty cool. Love to see something like it. Basically felt like an anime female version of the Witcher.
Well if Berserk manga inspired Dark Souls then maybe this is everything coming full circle.
Claymore. Watch it.
This makes me want to watch some dark action anime to prepare. Any recommendations?
I still say it’s more like Soul Sacrifice than Dark Souls, and this only makes it more so.
Anime Dark Souls…
I’ll reserve judgement
