Code Vein Behind the Scenes Trailer Talks Art Style and Gameplay

Bandai Namco have shared a new trailer for their upcoming game Code Vein featuring the game’s art style and going over some of the combat. Hiroshi Yoshimura the director at Bandai Namco Studios shares:

The first image I had in my head was of a modern society that had collapsed, and then I thought about the type of characters that would exist in such a world, about how interesting it would be to walk around as a character in that world. Vampires were the first thing that came to mind. Not the classical kind of vampire, but a more modern type of vampire, and this is an image of our concept at the time.

The story of Code Vein is set in a world about Vampires or known as Revenants in-game. While stories of vampires are as old as time, the world is set in quite a modern age, with some more modern features.

The associate director and content director of Code Vein Yuta Yamamota also explains that from the get go they wanted to use Unreal Engine for the game’s graphics. Stylising the characters and surroundings in an anime art style. Each area of Code Vein will feature different environmental elements, because of it’s focus on dungeon crawling, they have included a range of traps and varying structures.

There are also some similarities with previous titles such as God Eater, Code Vein also uses blood as part of the main story as well as using it as part of gameplay as well such as the Blood Veil and Blood Code:

By using blood as a theme in this game, we are really emphasising the themes of life and death at the core of Code Vein, so we have no choice but to deal with this problem. In fact, since we’re using vampires in our game and blood as a theme, we began incorporating blood into many of the gameplay elements, showing gadgets actually using blood, and depicting just how blood is drained.

Code Vein will release on September 27th on PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
