CD Projekt Red Uncertain Next-Gen Cyberpunk and Witcher 3 Updates Will Arrive this Year
CD Projekt Red have shared with investors that they “can’t say with full certainty” they will be able to deliver the Cyberpunk 2077 and Witcher 3 next-gen updates this year. Their initial plan was to launch these upgrades in “late 2021“.
The enhanced edition for The Witcher 3 for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S promises to include ray-tracing and faster loading times. The next-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077 is also in development.
Both versions were supposed to launch this year, however an exact release date is yet to be unveiled, as the developer needed to release a number of updates for the game after a disappointing launch.
While both updates are still slated for “late 2021, senior vice president of business development Michal Nowakowski has now relayed to their investors at the CD Projekt’s H1 2021 results call (transcribed via VGC), that the studio is “definitely” aiming for launch this year, but “can’t say with full certainty that the production schedule will not change.”.
But according to Nowakowski they have learnt from their past mistakes, “At the same time, keeping in mind the lessons we have learned during the past year and taking into account that this project still remains in development, we can’t say with full certainty that the production schedule will not change.”
The Witcher 3 update is being handled by Saber Interactive, with Nowakowski also explaining that since the development is “ongoing”, the release schedule is not set in stone.
Earlier last month Cyberpunk 2077 gained its first free DLC which added additional content such as new cosmetics for V, an alternative for Johnny Silverhand, and a new vehicle called the Archer Quartz Bandit.
Cyberpunk 2077 is currently available on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC. The Witcher 3 is available on Playstation 4, Xbox One, PC and Switch.
