The official document shared by the NCBR gives an overview of the proposals and gives us some insights into what the studio is planning for their future games. Here’s an overview of each proposal:

Seamless Multiplayer

Comprehensive technology enables the creation of unique gameplay for many players, taking into account the search of opponents, session management, replication facilities, and support of a variety of game modes along with a unique set of dedicated tools.

Cinematic Feel

Comprehensive technology for providing a unique, film quality RPG with open world, also taking into account innovative solutions Process and unique set of dedicated tools.

Animation Excellence

Comprehensive technology enabling a significant increase in quality and production of complex face and body animations for open world RPG games, also taking into account the innovative process solutions and a unique set of dedicated tools.

We know that Cyberpunk 2077 is under development right now, set to release sometime next year or after and from our what we know article, the game is going to be larger in scope than any of the Witcher games. We also know that multiplayer is confirmed for the title, just not exactly in what form, and it seems these proposals are to that end.

After reading the proposals, it’s evident that there are applications for advancing domestic technical knowledge as well as video game development. Many tech companies apply for these types of grants and its encouraging to see game developers regarded in the same way.

  1. Many of these funds are earmarked for specific industries like the arts and entertainment. It’s good for culture and for domestic business growth. In the case of game development it’s nice to see the industry grown to the point where they are on the radars of government as important pieces of culture and economics.

Well I’d think that live, city scale AI controlled everything would be useful for city planning if it was sufficently advanced. Doesn’t seem likely, but it is possible.

Other than that, it could be an enormous benefit to CD Projekt and make them a ton of money, which will in turn make the Polish government a ton of money in taxes and potentially attract more developers to work in the area in the hopes of working with CD Projekt (again, more money for Polish government.)

  3. So, the Polish government is getting into the gaming industry. I’m both curious, and excited. The gaming revolution is upon us my kin.

  4. Interesting, I really wonder why the polish government is funding research in any of these. What benefit would the government have from any of these proposals?
