Broken Roads’ Release Date Pushed to Early 2024

CRPG Broken Roads has been announced by the developer Drop Bear Bytes to be released sometime in early 2024. The narrative game was expected to release on November 14th but has since been pushed to next year. The reason for its delay is to “allow for additional polish time”. The post on their Steam page explains that the extra time spent will be used for quality assurance testing to ensure that the game is in peak condition upon release.

Fixing those Broken Roads

According to the post, the game’s gameplay is around 30 hours and contains nearly 400,000 words of dialogue. As you’d expect from an Australian set game, Aussie slang is prevalent throughout, the same goes for the insults for the in-game dialogue. The checking process is “extremely time-consuming” due to the extent of the content, in order to fully test everything. This isn’t the first time the game has been delayed as it was initially aiming to be released in 2022.

Broken Roads the narrative driven CRPG gets pushed to early 2024.

Post-Apocalyptic CRPG

In case you missed it, Broken Roads features a deep morality system which not only influences the quests but the dialogue and character development in the game. Set in a post-apocalyptic Australia, the game features real-world locations and landmarks which can be discovered as you explore and ultimately survive. Characters can follow different philosophical paths which include Humanist, Utilitarian, Machiavellian and Nihilist each featuring different traits. This also means problems can be solved with words not just with brawn, gaining some influence from another solid narrative RPG Disco Elysium.

Broken Roads is now expected to launch sometime in early 2024 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series and Switch. In the meantime, if you’re looking for some great narrative-driven RPGs try Gamedec for some virtual world detective sleuthing. Or a game that inspired Broken Roads, the dark-humoured Disco Elysium.
