In this article, I’ll take a look at some of the best examples of cosplay artists who really nail the characters that they were portraying. Many of these cosplayers really go the extra mile with their costumes to get the level of detail just right. Some – but not all – also make their own costumes. Another aspect which made some of them stand out is their infectious enthusiasm for the characters they’re portraying. I think their dedication should be admired. First up, it’s Maul Cosplay.
The best video game cosplay artists
1) Maul Cosplay as Geralt, The Witcher
Having previously seen Maul Cosplay as Regis Lucis Caelum, Khal Drogo and out of costume helped to bring home the level he went through for this transformation. He even got the eyes right, with coloured contact lenses. You can check out his Witcher video below.
And, should you wish to try it out for yourself, you can find a detailed Witcher makeup tutorial on his Facebook page.
2) Jessica Nigri as Juliet Starling, Lollipop Chainsaw
No cosplay list would be complete without Jessica Nigri, so here she is. It was winning a competition to become the official face of Juliet Starling which really thrust Jessica Nigri into the limelight. She’s such a bubbly, funny person and her enthusiasm for both cosplaying and all things geeky in general is delightful. Here is her appearance in the official Lollipop Chainsaw advert as Juliet Starling.
3) Janet Incosplay as Widowmaker, Overwatch
You have to appreciate someone who would go blue for a cosplay role. She looks so much like Widowmaker, it’s almost scary!
I also loved this cosplay than Janet Incosplay did as Junko from Danganronpa:

4) LeonChiroCosplayArt at Edward Kenway, Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag
It’s just such a detailed costume. Heading onto a (pirate?) ship for the photo shoot was also a nice touch.

And here he is again as Dante from Devil May Cry (the original, not the Ninja Theory version).

5) Linda Le/Vampy Bit Me as Morrigan, Darkstalkers
Linda Le – more commonly known as Vampy Bit Me – is another cosplayer who makes the vast majority of her costumes herself. Vampy Bit Me has quite a large following for her cosplay and it’s easy to see why.

6) Yaya Han as Camilla, Fire Emblem Fates
Not everybody could manage to pull off a Camilla cosplay but Yaya Han suits it perfectly. I love the costume! Yaya Han was a costume designer and model prior to switching to cosplaying.

7) Jason as Barret Wallace, Final Fantasy VII
As a Final Fantasy fan, I wanted to include at least one Final Fantasy cosplay. There are tonnes of people doing Cloud cosplays but are not as many people who do Barret and even fewer who do him well. Step up to the plate, Jason. The explanation he gives in this video gives you some idea of the amount of work that goes into creating cosplay costumes.
8) Danquish as Sub Zero, Mortal Kombat
As well as it being a spot-on cosplay of Sub Zero, I just generally really like this photo. Sub Zero and Elsa make quite a cute couple. So romantic!

9) Alodia Gosiengfiao as D. Va, Overwatch
Alodia Gosiengfiao is right near the top in the cosplay world. She is a talented Filipino cosplayer with a deep love of video games.

And here she is again in cosplay as Morrigan from Darkstalkers.

10) Crystal Graziano as Shepard, Mass Effect
I’m Commander Shepard and this is my favourite cosplayer on the Citadel. It’s so good! A very nice Mass Effect cosplay.
