Since we arrived in Europe a few days ahead of Gamescom, and our much anticipated Dark Souls III hands-on demo, we took some time to explore the remarkable and stunning landscapes of the land of Cheese and Chocolate: Switzerland. There was much train-riding (and a boat ride), countless views of some of the most amazing landscapes you’ve ever seen, and beer by the ever-flowing pint. There will be a separate article dedicated to beer!
The weather was simply fantastic and made for one of the most memorable trips we will ever remember.
The view from Kilchberg, overlooking Lake Zurich.2 Sausages at the train station. Why have 1 when you can have 2 Fex always says…The view of Goldau on the way. Goldau is located on a lake between the mountains: Rossberg and Rigi.Looking down into the valley on the way up to Rigi Mountain. 50 Shades of Green anyone??Signs like this are all too common in Switzerland. If I counted that right, that’s an 19, 20, 21 letter word!!The view as we approach the top of Mount Rigi. The Alps are in the distance. We could just see them poking through the clouds.Nearly at the top. We came right by that house on the right there. The clouds were so thick that you couldn’t see 10 meters out of the train on that side…The view from the top of Mount Rigi, also known as Queen of the Mountains.Fex shows of her artistic side, capturing this beautiful picture that couldn’t possibly depict Switzerland any more perfectly.Food of the Gods? Doesn’t seem so unbelievable when you’re this high up…Starting our decent down to Vitznau, the view here was probably the best in Switzerland. You could see for miles in just about every direction.Further on down the mountain, you can just see Vitznau down below. We would be catching a boat from there to Lucerne.Vitznau Switzerland. Your typical Swiss city on the lake. The mountains in the backround are stunning.Just after boarding the boat. I believe they were playing the Swiss national anthem on their Alphorns…Another boat passes us by. This is what our boat looked like as well. This Swiss are fond of waving at passersby…The view from the boat deck. There were numerous mansions and castles along the coast along with many boats out enjoying the weather. We stop at Weggis to pick up a few more tourists. We pull into Lucerne Switzerland. The town is a blend of modern and medieval architecture. Simply beautiful. We just got off the boat. I couldn’t make that boat name up if I tried…It’s actually the name of a Saint in Switzerland…wonder what he was famous for…We stopped to have a beer at the brewery in the middle there. It’s called Rathaus Brauerei. Thought all you Rat Bros out there would get a kick out of that. The view from the restaurant we ate at overlooking Lucerne. We had Fondue and of course more beer…Switzerland’s finest. Mmmm….One last shot of Chapel Bridge as the Sun was starting to set. This is the oldest covered wooden bridge in Europe.
But wait, there’s more!
Farmland on the way to Goldau
Where is Heide?
So much green!!
Vitznau port, where we hopped on the boat to Lucerne.
More lakeside gorgeousness.
We are heading into Germany today, to see Cologne and get playtime with Dark Souls 3, amongst many other games~! Stay tuned for more travel articles, an upcoming beer marathon and, of course, GAMES!
