Don’t Nod’s next decision turmoil RPG Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden got a closer look at skills, difficult decisions and ghost-hunting combat in the latest gameplay preview.
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden Gets Gameplay Overview Featuring Spectral Abilities
A new 7 minute video dives into the skills players in Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden will be armed with in the upcoming Action-RPG. Playing as a pair of spirit hunters, players will be using their abilities to hunt down pesky spectres and otherworldly beings. The game is described with themes of “journey between life, death, love, and sacrifices”.
If you’re unfamiliar with Don’t Nod’s gut-wrenching, feel-inducing games, well Banishers: Ghost of New Eden’s narrative looks to be one following the struggles of a ghost hunter Antea Duarte and newly spirited away partner Red Mac Raith. Difficult decisions await players as they navigate the world as these separated lovers but find a way to bring Antea back to the land of the living. Sacrificing the dead to keep Antea sustained.
Ghost Hunting is Serious Business
Each character players will meet will have their own story behind their demise. Of course, along the way weighty consequences will affect your playthrough. Also teased in Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is the ability to be judge, jury and maybe executioner, or banisher in this case. You can choose to let them suffer in banishment or let them ascend to serenity. I can’t wait to see how this will affect the overall plot or if it causes any issues with world interactions but hopefully not be too restrictive like in another Don’t Nod title Vampyr.
However having Antea on your team, being a ghost comes in handy as it opens up some advantageous skills. Antea being a ghostly being from beyond is armed with more spiritual abilities, balancing Red’s brawn. Through perception, her powers can help enhance navigating the land with a spectral leap to get to hard-to-reach areas. There’s also burst damage, unleashing spectral energy. Giving a slight Metroidvania feel, players can revisit locations and use newly acquired abilities to reach previously difficult-to-reach areas.
Friend or Foe?
The feature ends with a larger-than-life being begging to be freed from its rattling chains. Whether it’s a friend or foe is too soon to tell. Hopefully, we’ll get to make that decision in the game. Multiple choices could mean multiple endings and further playthroughs, I hope that this is a fully impactful game which is Don’t Nod’s bread and butter. If you’ve plays games such as Life is Strange, you know what I’m talking about.
