Larian Studios has announced a limitation on the number of active mods players can use on consoles in Baldur’s Gate 3: 100 per save file.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Sets 100 Mod Limit for Consoles
The decision was made for the acclaimed RPG on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series due to excessive mod use causing longer load times and even crashes.
To prevent players from using an excessive number of mods, Larian has released a patch that caps the number at 100. “Now that there are more than 100 mods available for download on consoles, we need to have a serious conversation,” the company stated.
Players who currently have more than 100 mods in their save file will not be able to load it at the moment. There is a workaround to continue progress: using cross-save, players can load their save on PC, disable mods to reduce the count below the limit, and then transfer the save back to the console.
A more effective and official solution is coming soon, but Larian recommends installing only the most essential mods for now.
How Do Mod Limitations Work On Consoles?
Larian has also released a video explaining how mods are implemented on consoles, the rules, limitations, and the testing process.
“The team is working hard to test the latest versions of some mods currently available on consoles to ensure they can be updated. They will continue approving new mods that meet our guidelines and have successfully passed testing,” the company revealed.
