Larian Studios, creators of the acclaimed Baldur’s Gate 3, are celebrating the success of mods in their RPG. Since the official tools were released in September, over 3,000 mods have been uploaded, amassing an impressive 70 million downloads.

Baldur’s Gate 3 – All the New Features Coming in Patch 8

Additionally, the studio has announced the features of the next major update, scheduled for release next year. Patch 8 will introduce some of the most anticipated additions, including cross-play, a photo mode, and 12 new subclasses.

Cross-Play Functionality
Patch 8 will enable cross-play, allowing players to join multiplayer sessions across all supported platforms, including PC, Mac, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5. This feature ensures progress continuity regardless of the device used, and players can organize multiplayer lobbies with friends on any platform.

12 New Subclasses
Each base class in the game will receive a new subclass, adding variety and depth to gameplay. Some highlights include:

• Bards: College of Glamour, offering the ability to charm enemies and heal allies with abilities like Mantle of Inspiration.

• Barbarians: Path of the Giant, granting immense strength and the ability to hurl enemies and allies effortlessly.
• Clerics: Death Domain, featuring necrotic spells and the ability to detonate nearby corpses to damage enemies.

• Druids: Circle of Stars, enabling transformation into astral forms like the Archer, Chalice, or Dragon, each with unique strategic advantages.

• Paladins: Oath of the Crown, focused on protecting and empowering allies.
• Fighters: Arcane Archer, blending magical skills with precise ranged attacks.

• Monks: Drunken Master, leveraging alcohol consumption to boost abilities and debuff enemies with intoxication effects.
• Rangers: Swarmkeeper, summoning swarms of creatures like jellyfish, moths, or bees, each with unique effects like blinding or pushing foes.

• Rogues: Swashbuckler, emphasizing agile and daring combat maneuvers.
• Sorcerers: Shadow Magic, gaining power in darkness with abilities like shadow walking and summoning a shadow hound.
• Warlocks: Hexblade, making pacts to summon magical weapons and control souls.
• Wizards: Bladesinging, combining melee combat elegance with arcane magic.

These subclasses will introduce new animations, visual effects, enhanced abilities, and narrative role-playing opportunities.

Photo Mode
The long-awaited photo mode will allow players to pause the action and take customized screenshots. Features include camera adjustments, post-processing effects, frames, stickers, and character poses. Players can create everything from dynamic combat shots to intimate moments between characters, adding a personalized touch to their adventures.

Stress Testing and Polishing

Larian Studios has announced a stress test for the patch, scheduled for January, to ensure smooth functionality for all new features, including subclasses, photo mode, and cross-play. The update will also address bug fixes and fine-tune aspects like cinematics and gameplay mechanics.

Patch 8 promises to be a game-changer, delivering an array of exciting features that will further enrich the experience for Baldur’s Gate 3 players in 2025.
