Away: Journey to the Unexpected is coming to PC, PS4 & Switch

Here’s a title which may not be on your watch list yet but really should be. Away: Journey to the Unexpected has lovingly been called “anime Skyrim” by its developers. If it lives up to that billing, we’re in for a treat.

The game’s protagonist is a young boy who finds himself in a magical land after exploring his grandparents’ basement. Once there, he joins an epic quest to save the world. He’s a clever boy but at the end of the day he is just a boy armed with a stick, so you’ll need to recruit heroes to aid you in combat. They’ll also be able to solve some puzzles that you cannot solve alone. And the heroes which you can recruit all sound great. For example, an old wizard with a pair of cracked glasses and a sentiment tree creature. Here’s the game’s trailer.

I love the game’s visuals. It’s a vibrant, colourful world which looks like it has been pulled straight out of an anime. I can’t wait to play it and meet the game’s many quirky characters. Away: Journey to the Unexpected will be released in 2018 for Steam, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.  It’s being published by Playdius and is being developed by Aurélien Régard and Jim Gennisson.
