FFXV coming to PC 2018, will support 8K, Trailer & Screenshots inside!

Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy XV is coming to PC in early 2018, and revealed several surprising details of the upcoming FFXV windows venture. Final Fanatsy XV: Windows Edition is already available on Steam. The tags describing it are” RPG, Violent, Open World, Fantasy, Adventure, JRPG, Action, Great Soundtrack”.

FFXV Windows Edition coming early 2018

The console port includes all DLC for FFXV in a bundle, and a new first-person gameplay mode. Further, the game supports GeForce Experience‘s capture tools and GameWorks technology, delivering real-time graphics and physics simulations unique to the Nvidia engine.

  • NVIDIA Flow – creates vivid, combustible fluid, fire and smoke.
  • NVIDIA HairWorks – creates dynamic, life-like hair and fur for characters, animals and monsters that inhabit the game.
  • NVIDIA ShadowWorks – enables characters to cast shadows on themselves.
  • NVIDIA Turf Effects – creates life-like grass and vegetation in the game environment.
  • NVIDIA VXAO – adds depth and realism based on the physics principles shadows and light.
  • NVIDIA Ansel, an in-game photography tool that allows gamers to compose shots from any position, adjust with post-process filters, capture HDR images in high fidelity formats, and share screenshots in 360 via a smartphone, PC or VR headset
  • NVIDIA ShadowPlay Highlights automatically captures the player’s greatest gaming achievements in video and screenshot, enabling seamless sharing through social channels.

FFXV Windows Edition PC Requirements

The recommended specs for playing FFXV have been made available, although this is not the minimum. Blow your mind:

  • Monitor: supports 4K & HDR
  • GPU: Geforce 1080Ti
  • CPU: Intel i7 3.4ghz or Ryzen 7 1700
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • 5.1 or 7.1 surround headphone
  • HDD: 170GB
  • 5.1 or 7.1 surround headphone

FFXV Windows Edition Screenshots

The size of this screenshots has been reduced to 1920×1080 to avoid crashing Pleb computers of the wanting masses. The game, however, is gonna be delivering in native 4K textures (3840 x 2160) and that it can be configured to support up to 8K resolution -HDR10 as well!

  1. Spoiled short rant:
    The thing is, they’re *not* exclusive. Poking around with the drivers can and will enable them on other hardware. (Borderlands 2 comes to mind, all you have to do is go to the nvidia website and push a button, roughtly 2 seconds later your AMD card has PhysX for borderlands,) it’s that Nvidia won’t let anyone optimize it for AMD (mostly by locking the code up inside a black box nobody is allowed to look at) so they can’t get it working without slowdown of varying degrees of severity (which is on a feature by feature and game by game basis) on AMD hardware. AMD is no saint, but Nvidia (and Intel) are basically just evil, and making either legal but scummy or outright illegal and off the record busniess deals to undermine AMD rather than actually compete on the merits of their products.

    Usually the games will either have options, auto disable “exclusive” features to preserve performance, or the devs will work really had to optimize it as best they can, but typically Gameworks games come with a visual compromise, or a 10-20% slower framerate on AMD hardware.

  2. Since I pretty much ever only use Nvidia, I had no idea AMD had so much troubles with these features. Sounds like a real bummer, I wonder if these exclusive and problem-generating features can be disabled in-game to optimize performance.

  3. Gainworks is just there to sabotage AMD. It’s the current generation of hariworks, which was their go to before AMD started using drive level overrides to prevent stupid levels of tesselation on hair that provides no visual benefit and cripples performance.

    It’s always sad when gamers pay for crappy corperate practices and lose out on experiences their hardware is actually perfectly capable of providing if not for deliberate sabotage.

  4. I was excited when I saw the title of the trailer. Then I watched it. It’s basically an Nvidia commercial.

    The port uses “GameWorks”. Not only is “GameWorks” itself essentially non-functional on AMD hardware (which is roughly 1/3 of the GPU market), but anyone using it is contractually bound to not work with AMD to help their games perform better on AMD hardware. It is about as anti-competitive as you can get, short of outright blocking AMD GPUs from functioning at all. The FTC really needs to be looking into this sort of behavior.

    One thing I did not see was any indication that the game will actually make us of any modern rendering API (namely DX12 or Vulkan). AMD hardware tends to do much better with the APIs that can do asynchronous rendering, at least with good implementations (as opposed to hack jobs like the DX12 in Square Enix’s most recent Tomb Raider game, that was essentially added for Microsoft marketing).

    I’ll reserve final judgement till release, but as an AMD GPU owner it’s very unlikely I’ll end up getting this game, as much as I was anticipating a PC release. :(
