11 Minute Gameplay of BioMutant from Gamescom 2017!

Two days ago, publisher THQ Nordic and newly formed developer Experiment 101 — a team that’s composed of ex-Just Cause and ex-Mad Max developers — announced a brand-new IP titled: BioMutant, a post-apocalpytic kung-fu action-RPG where you play as a anthropomorphic furry Rocket Raccoon type creature.

BioMutant coming out in early 2018!

Today, over 11 minutes of Alpha gameplay has surfaced showing off a better look at the game (courtesy of IGN), which you can view above. The new video begins by showing off the game’s character creator options. You can customize:

  • Gender
  • Mutation (Size)
  • Fur Type
  • Fur Style (Fur Pattern)
  • Primary Fur Color
  • Detail Color (Fur Pattern Color)

The gameplay footage of the open-world action-RPG extensively showcases the DMC-like combat that blends melee, shooter, and mutant abilities of your customizable furry protagonist. Among the enemy variety shown include a giant meat-eating ‘Lupa-Lupin’ (from the announcement trailer), a giant insect-monster ‘Mork’ and a bald yeti ‘Sludge Soaker’.

There’s also looting and weapon customization, and more. BioMutant follows an interactive narrative featuring a contextual storyteller where the player creates their own story as well as a morality system that boils into a Yin and Yang type meter that tracks your level of goodness vs. evilness.

BioMutant is currently in development for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It will retail for $59.99 USD and has a slated release date for early 2018. A collector’s edition for the game was officially announced two days ago that will retail for $119.99 USD. You can also check out these screenshots leaked prior showing different parts of the game not in the alpha footage.

Oh yeah, I saw that too, and I figured as much anyways. what I meant by my post was that the yin yang system is, to my understanding, inaccurate to what it really means in Chinese philosophy and religion. Yin and yang are not equal to right and wrong and good and evil, but more equal to opposing forces, neither right or wrong, two sides of a coin, day and night, hot and cold, etc. I guess good and evil could include that, but then which would be good, and which evil? after all, yin supposedly means cold, darkness, night, and negativity, so shouldn’t it be the evil half?

That’s my problem with using yin and yang, as it’s not the same as the black and white morality of good and evil.

  2. On IGN’s site, they have a 15 minute version of this video that has the developer talking over the gameplay. In it he says you can skew your character to be anywhere between the good/evil sides that you want; plenty of gray available!!

  3. My only problem is with the idea of yin and yang. From what I know about the concepts, they are not simply good and evil, but representation of two sides of a being. Yin is the aspects of passivity, darkness, and femininity, while yang encapsulates aggressiveness and activity, light and masculinity. niether is good or evil.
