Play Overwatch For Free This Weekend On Consoles

Blizzard’s popular team shooter Overwatch is free this weekend for PS4 and Xbox One players starting today and running until 4 PM PST on Monday the 12th.

During the Free Weekend, players will have access to Overwatch’s full roster of heroes, maps, and a selection of features—including Quick Play, Custom Games, Loot Boxes, and Weekly Brawl. Competitive Play however, is not available. You’ll have to buy the game to get access to that.

There are 13 total maps across 4 different game modes (Assault, Escort, Assault/Escort Hybrd, Control) which all support 6v6 team based play. Additionally there are tutorial modes to help new players get accustomed to how the heroes each handle their respective roles.

If you’re looking for something free and easy to pick up and play, this may be your weekend! Answering the call of the heroes? Let us know your thoughts!

  1. I had an XBox360 given a present years ago; I played TES:Oblivion and Fable on it, then I went to PC for everything after. Now, I have always had a Playstation because PS1 had Resident Evil and I love that game so much I should marry it. I used to play the Suikoden series when I was up late with me daughter and nursing and then upgraded to PS2 for the next series, skipped 3 and got 4. I am on my PC so much I just have not thought about getting games for the PS4 that are multiplayer… but I am going to have to rethink that and probably get DS3 for PS4. To be certain, as a left handed player, XBox controllers are much better for me brain, but… I have to keep me Suikoden games lol

    If I had an XBox now, I would totally play on a game night :) That sounds like incredible fun!

    I can relate. I’m an xbox guy so I don’t get to participate in most community related things for this site.
    I did host a whole weekend of blue for DS3 awhile back where I dried fingered the area after pontiff and let blues stave off invaders. Didn’t get many people from fextra I think.

    But that’s probably due to time zone differences. I want to host an xbox fextra night someday where I make a party and leave it open for xbox players to join and we all pick random games to play/chat. Not sure if i’m ready to reveal myself voice wise tho. Or how much interest people would have in it.

    There is.. I just have not met them …. yet. Also, working on other projects so I have barely got me feet wet. I have had less of a gaming life lately :(

  4. what E said but i think i read off blizzard that you keep all the stuff you unlock during the free period. and rip im on ps4 ; – ;

  5. I think it’s just cheeky marketing that really just means you need to have PS Plus to play if you decide to buy.

    yeah, wish I knew that before putting it to download.. it’s sucking all my internet power :sick:

    By the way, when you scroll over the Overwatch icon in your library it says that if you subscribe to PS plus you can “continue the fight after the trial is over”. Does it mean it’ll be free for PS plus users for an while? I doubt Blizzard would do something like that but who knows…

  7. They should make more demos for games. I might actually buy more games if they did.

    One question, is this a actual limited time download of the game, or like PS now where you have to stream it off the internet. if the latter is the case. I probably won’t even bother. my internet is too poor for that.

  8. Okay, I have waaaaay too much games/stuff do to in this weekend and barely any time. And they throw THIS at us! Oh well, time to take that fatty guy with a hook and have some fun :P
