Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition Brings the CRPG to PS4 & Xbox One in August

Today, Paradox Interactive and Obsidian Entertainment has announced the Pillars of Eternity Complete Edition, which will be releasing on August 29th for the PS4 and Xbox One, bringing the celebrated CRPG to console for the first time! Check out the announcement trailer:

Pillars of Eternity is an RPG inspired by classic titles such as Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment, which features an original world and game system that evokes and improves upon the traditional computer RPG experience. The Complete Edition, adapted for consoles by Paradox Arctic and distributed at physical retail by 505 Games, features an enhanced UI and redesigned controls to provide a superb experience on the big screen, navigated easily and intuitively using game controllers.

The Pillars of Eternity complete edition includes the following content:

  • The base game
  • Both expansions: The White March Parts I and II

Fans of Pillars of Eternity now have an entirely fresh experience to play (or relive) in anticipation of the upcoming sequel, Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire. The port is developed by Paradox Arctic studio and features an enhanced console interface, with controller-friendly menus, combat, and party management.

Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire just finished up an impressive crowdfunding campaign and is in heavy development. The sequel will build upon the strengths of the first while adding more expansive player options while continuing the story of the first.

This could mean good things for Pillars of Eternity’s alternative history sequel Tyranny which envisions a world where evil has won, and this could mean it’s the next Obsidian classic to make an appearance on consoles as well as Deadfire. We can only hope! Thoughts on the news? Sound off in the comments!

  1. I’ve never seen so many PC games coming to consoles as its happening now. The other way around is true too!

So many games we thought consoles would never get…

  2. Between this and Sonic Mania, August is shaping up to be a great month for old school players.

  3. Finally!!!
I played up to act 3 about 3 times on my old PC.
I spent so much time customizing and experimenting with my groups on different difficulties that I never even beat it. And I was really into this game. I made it to Act 2 maybe a dozen times.

This makes me very happy. Thanks for the early morning hype! I don’t even mind buying this one again. Totally worth it, especially since I never even messed with any dlc.

I too find an appeal to 2D isometric games, though I far prefer ARPGs like Titan Quest.

  5. I loved Bioware’s and Black Isle’s games back in the day (old AD&D player/DM here), so this is excellent news for a PS4 owner without a decent enough PC. There was something about the 2D games with their beautiful landscapes nothing afterward compared to (Neverwinter Nights). Played BG1, 2 and Icewind Dale to death.

Not Icewind Dale 2 though. The game system (xp, levelling, classes…) always felt very awkward to me.
