After E3 last year we brought back some preview footage and impressions of a Samurai meets Dark Souls game called Nioh. Since then other comparisons have been tossed around, with names like Onimusha and Ninja Gaiden frequently popping up on comment threads. Developer Team Ninja has announced this week via the Playstation Blog that an Alpha Demo will be available to play later this month exclusively on PS4.
Set in a time of civil war in Japan, Nioh not only incorporates classic elements such as samurai and supernatural creatures from Japanese folklore, but also offers the exhilaration of an authentic samurai sword fight straight from Team Ninja, the team that defined brutal action games.
The demo will be available to download and play from April 26th through May 5th. As a bonus for giving the demo a try, players who manage to clear a stage of the Alpha Demo will be able to download The Mark of the Conqueror DLC which will entitle them to some special DLC in the full game. The exact details of this future DLC were not revealed. There will be an online survey available during the demo period to collect player feedback.
This game has been in one of those trademark long development cycles, having been in the works for over 10 years. While no concrete released date was given, it was stated in the post that the game would release in 2016. We’ll continue to bring updates on its development! And of course, there’s a Wiki for that.

Played a bit of it today. It plays a lot like Samurai Bloodborne. The combat isn’t as tight as Dark Souls, but man there are some many similar concepts…it’s like Salt and Sanctuary all over again. You play for 30 minutes and you subconsciously already know how to play…

EDIT: Not out yet for NA, my bad. Just read a tweet from KoeiTecmo America saying the demo will be available once the PS Stores update for NA.
I expect to be balls-deep in DS3 still at that point. Maybe I could take a break for a day to try it.
I’d lol at announcing DLC before announcing the release date of the game, but at least they’re giving it away for free.
