Your Nintendo Switch Has An NES Emulator!

Recently, the world discovered that embedded within each  Nintendo Swtich console, there is a fully functional NES Emulator with a 1984 NES game, Golf“.

Nintendo Switch An NES Emulator?

This find came from fans data mining the consoles firmware and coming across a system file titled, “flog” (It’s golf backwards).

According to a poster on SwitchBrew.org (a depository for exploits and file analysis for the Nintendo Switch) “yellows8”, mentions that the file has been part of the Switch OS since its pre-launch “1.0.0 version”.

The only NES game included, the classic 1984 Golf is a full copy and supports the traditional Joy-Con motion control and the use of the L & R buttons.

Below, you can check out the screenshots of the emulator running Golf and on-screen support for Joy-Con controllers:

With the promised “Virtual Console” support taking its time, this piece of news may give Switch owners false hope, as the “flog” Emulator can only be accessed through unofficial methods. Meaning you’d have to have root system access and a modified piece of software or hardware.

This discovery may likely be a pre-release test  for the NES titles being offered as part of Nintendo’s “Classic Games Selection” subscription. Besides Switch-specific upgrades like online play, its also been rumored to include GameCube games.

But do note and relax, that this upcoming subscription won’t be replacing the old Virtual Console from the days of the Nintendo Wii.
