Nier: Automata Releases New Details & Screenshots of Locations & Activities

Square Enix and Platinum Games have detailed some of the locations and activities players will be exploring in the upcoming Nier: Automata which releases for the PS4 on February 23rd  in Japan, March 7th in NA and the 10th in EU. A PC releases is coming later this year.

The Abandoned Amusement Park and Submerged City were the 2 locations shown. The amusement park was once a playground for humans but now long abandoned is being repopulated by something creating new machines in flashy attire. The Submerged City was a former bustling metropolis that suffered the effects of a large scale battle that has left most of it beneath the sea.

Combat was also explained more, specifically unarmed combat, which will let the player use dedicated movesets for the hand to hand combat when they’ve unequipped weapons. This is the fastest but least powerful form of fighting in the game.

As we’ve seen before, mounts will be in the game. To ride them you’ll have to lure them with bait, and then hop on to use them as a means of transportation. So far we know that deer and boars will be rideable mounts.

There will also be some diversionary activities players can get into similar to Final Fantasy XV. Players will be able to fish by tossing their support PODs into water (how nice of you) in order to catch real fish and fish-like machines. Furthermore, when you’re back at the Resistance Camp home base, you’ll be able to listen to a jukebox there to hear songs from the game. You will have the freedom to change the sounds and arrangements of the songs to create your own fresh mixes.

With the info here, we can see that Nier: Automata is not simply a standard Action RPG but instead has the kind of quirks and wrinkles that give a game character. A demo is available right now for PS4 players on the Playstation Store and is very much worth checking out for those interested in stylized high speed action with deeper elements.
