Final Fantasy XV: A New Empire Mobile Game Info & Impressions

MzFor those of us on the go, it’s not always easy to get our big gaming title fix while waiting in line to buy eggs or sitting in a waiting room for an appointment. Well, if you’re a Final Fantasy XV fan you’re in luck as Final Fantasy XV: A New Empire has made its way to Anroid and iOS, giving the franchise another mobile game that you can carry in your pocket and an excuse to not make small talk when out in public.

Final Fantasy XV: A New Empire Information

Final Fantasy XV: A New Empire is a free to play mobile strategy game (termed an MMORPG in official marketing) developed by Machine Zone under the name Epic Action. It is set in the same world as Final Fantasy XV and features an alternate story that explores the rise of the kingdom of Insomnia.

Journey through vast kingdoms, gather magical resources, and build the strongest Empire in Final Fantasy history! Fight fire with magic to defend friends and defeat foes alongside millions of players from around the world! Do you have the strength and strategy to control the Crystal and rule the Realm?

Here are the features as listed in the game’s app store description:

  • Experience your very own epic FFXV adventure on your mobile phone
  • Jump into the action with Noctis, Cindy, and all of your favorite FF15 characters
  • Fight alongside friends and against foes in legendary battles against millions of players from around the world!
  • Build up your large army and best strategy to win in real-time action-packed battles
  • Create the ultimate Guild or join up with already-powerful forces
  • Strategize with your guild to crush enemies and beasts in real-time battles
  • Compete for the Crystal against players from all over the world
  • Travel the Realms and collect rare resources to build an epic Empire
  • Become a legend by taking control of the Crystal and ruling the Realm

The game is free to play and does feature microtransactions as all do these days, to help accelerate your city building ambitions.  It features characters from Final Fantasy XV who will serve as guides for building your own kingdom from the ground up and when you boot up, your pal Noctis will give you the initial tutorial on building and set you on your merry way to become royalty.

There are Guild functions that allow you to link up with other players to partake in guild quests, and get help from other members to build your buildings as well as some other benefits. Once you have your building groove, you can head out with your chosen hero and engage in some combat. All of these things require resources and along the way the game will offer you plenty of methods to purchase some boosts.

Gameplay Impressions

All the buildings and upgrades require all manner of different resources you will have to harvest by setting up facilities like farms, quarries and extractors. All of these serve to support the growth and maintenance of your army. As you go, you’ll unlock gear that you can equip on your hero character that provide bonuses and boosts to things like production. There is a lot of clicking about, as you follow the game’s recommended quests to build and upgrade your structures. Eventually you do hit a bit of a progress wall where you are forced to either wait a pre-determined period of time for a build or upgrade to finish before doing other tasks and that’s where the game entices you with paid boosts. This suits either those who don’t mind opening their wallets or the frugal and patient. If you’re cheap and impatient you’re going to get frustrated in this and in many other things in life. As the old sales adage goes, “I can give you good, fast and cheap, but you have to pick 2”.

All said, it’s not the classic Final Fantasy XV RPG gameplay, and is more an empire building sim similar to Clash of Clans but still can be a fun way to kill some time. It’s presently hovering around the 4 star rating mark on the respective mobile stores and going in with your expectations adjusted accordingly may serve you well.
