Divinity: Original Sin 2 Coming to Early Access on PC in September

Divinity: Original Sin 2 will hit early access for PC on September 15th, 2016, as announced today by developer Larian Studios and seen on the game’s Steam page. The sequel to the critically acclaimed Divinity: Original Sin enjoyed a very successful Kickstarter campaign that saw the studio raise just over 2 million dollars, meeting every stretch goal in the process.

In a world where the Gods are dead, you play a wielder of forbidden magic, quarantined in the prison colony of Fort Joy. The Magisters of the Divine Order want to “cure” you of your powers. But the Order has secrets of its own. Secrets that threaten everyone. If the world remains godless, chaos will rule. It’s time for a new Divinity.

Divinity: Original 2 is a tactical turn-based RPG, that can be played cooperatively with up to 4 players. The franchise’s foundation is built on exploration and the freedom to play the game in the ways that suit players best, making use of classes, attributes, skills and abilities to interact with the world. Improvements to the game engine and character customization options gives players an opportunity to immerse themselves in deep roleplay while they experience a layered and dark story.

No price has been revealed for the early access, but for those unfamiliar with the concept, early access allows players a chance to “buy in” to a game still in development, often at a reduced price from the finished game. The game is typically in an alpha/beta like state, and usually incomplete but players are able to play the earlier parts of the content as well as any new updates and have the opportunity to offer feedback and bug reporting to assist in a smoother finished product.

With Torment: Tides of Numenera also in early access, we are seeing a resurgence of the classic RPG. Thoughts on how the game is shaping up? Let us know in the comments. We’ve got much more to come on Divinity: Original Sin 2, so be sure to check back here for more and follow us on Facebook and Twitter for up to the minute updates when news goes live.

  1. I’m so excited for this!!

I don’t generally like turn based but the combat mechanics on this game were simply fantastic. A true strategic experience.

I’ve bought two backings so very much looking forward to early access

  2. I’m really excited by this: can’t wait to see the early release. D:OS was my unexpected “game of the couple of years” of the, er, past couple of years. In spite of being a backer, I was actually quite sceptical of the isometric, turn-based perspective but it was just so much fun (though I have to say that I like it in spite of it being turn-based). It’s even got me playing the original Divine Divinity very many years after getting all fangirly about Ego Draconis: although the isometric games have an obviously different perspective, there’s always something familiar. Well, those somethings are the humour and Kirill’s wonderful soundtrack: and on that latter point, I wonder what’s going to happen now, as he was a bit of a unique talent.

Anyway, I should quite pontificating before I accidentally say something relevant or profound.
