Bandai Namco Releases “Prepare to Dine” Teaser

Bandai Namco has released a teaser trailer, teasing…something with  the tagline #PrepareToDine. Check out the teaser:

The clip features a vampire like vibe, with some hack and slash swordplay, although the video description refers to the animation as inspired by an upcoming project. Given the cheeky tagline, it’s possible the project in question here is at least Dark Souls inspired. An official announcement on the project is coming April 20th. We’ll be sure to bring an update then.

In the meantime, if real Dark Souls is more up your alley, be sure to check out The Ringed City page on the wiki if you’re still methodically making your way through the content!

Interesting, God Eater was pretty fun, so I’m looking forward to what they come up with.

Exactly. If it was From, I imagine it would say that somewhere.

Besides, the teaser hints at a more anime art direction and I don’t see From taking that approach for their new dark fantasy IP. Simply because they would not be able to easily reuse assets from previous Souls games. I could be wrong there. But it seems like it would require a fresh start to change art direction on such a drastic level. Of course, this is pure speculation on all ends.

That said. I’m looking forward to seeing more info and some gameplay. Looks right down my alley. I love the artwork.

  3. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s got nothing to do with From, Bloodborne, or Souls, and it’s just Bamco using a similar tagline to get attention for some unrelated project.
That said, I hope I’m wrong.

If it is From or Bloodborne-related, it could be a Bloodborne CCG, or an official animated story thing, or From could be doing a new stylised fantasy thing with vampires…….

  4. Hmm. Prepare to Dine… on 4/20. Prepare to Dine… because you’ve got the munchies.

    Yes, it’s finally here.

    Dank Souls.

One observation from me: there was an emphasis on female -> vampire, but also an emphasis on male -> beast. Brings vague ideas of Blood+ (anime) to mind, but that could just be the Japanese take on vampires.

I would have to agree, Bloodborne 2 is very unlikely (unless Sony have Bandai Namco permission), and Bloodrayne is a possibility (who owns the rights to it?).

It might be From, it might be someone else. I’ve seen the 20th as the day more info is released, so…

  7. looks like what will be a small game for FROM, maybe 2D, expanding on what Salt and Sanctuary brought to the genre.
looks like they are teasing this when Souls are finished and now fans start wondering what next?…but if they announce their next big title, it will be at E3 I suspect.

  8. So if we’re into guessing, here’s the “facts” that I see:

-Intentional vampiric allusions right off the bat. In addition to “dine” the first scene is a fanged person in what appears to be a helmet licking blood from the corner of their mouth. What appears to be clothing wraps itself around the person.
-Gas mask enemy. Maybe spikes on back
-Red cloaked person in ruined chapel with red eyed beast stalking outside
-Bones of a large creature in pyre. Being watched by character with red cloth (skirt or part of one?)
-Red eyed woman turns toward us with filtation unit (not quite a gas mask)
-Possibly same person (but without mask) smears bloody hand on wall, turns and shows blood coming from mouth. Wooden architecture. Person leaves field of vision and shadow shows beast transformation
-Hand flips over card (Ace of Spades, RIP Lemmy) that is covered in blood and has a bite mark
-Woman with beehive hair and rifle with bayonet runs around slashing beasts and confronts really large one…fade to black. Notable that this is yet another character, with red necklace

    Patterns:
-Multiple characters shown. First person with helmet. Red Cloak. Red Skirt. Filtration Unit gal. Beehive gal. All different, emphasis on female
    -Numerous vampire allusions
-Several lycanthropy allusions and beast allusions
-Technology reminiscent of early 1900s. Architecture elements though brief, also seem to correlate

    Other tidbits:
-Intentional usage of catchphrase similar to Dark Souls’ with From and Bandai Namco having a close relationship
    -Bloodborne is a Sony IP

    My guess:
Bloodborne is somewhat of a big deal for Sony. I don’t see them giving it up to let From and Bandai Namco do a sequel. So Bloodborne 2 I feel is unlikely. With the BN and From relationship though, I have to believe that the tagline isn’t meant to be JUST a parody, or that they’re using their known From connection to hype someone else’s game. Something like a Bloodrayne revival since I think that franchise has jumped around a couple times and kinda…died. Unless From acquired the Bloodrayne rights. Anyway, that came to mind because of the emphasis on “female” and “vampire.”

If I had to guess (I don’t but will anyway), the characters with red clothing/accessories are intended to appear more like protagonists. That would put several different on the map (cloak, skirt, beehive, with perhaps two more in the mix). That leads me to believe there’s some flexibility in “protagonist” which could hint at “character customization.” Different “build” concepts are also highlighted (gun, beast, perhaps arcane).

So to really wrap this up, we have what appears to be several vampires at war with beast like enemies, in an early 1900s setting with a reference to a From game, and numerous elements that mirror Bloodborne in some way.

    My “on record” guess:
Spiritual Successor to Bloodborne. Hunters are replaced with Vampires. Setting is moved up in time a bit. This is the “Dark Fantasy” game teased by From.

EDIT: I just really love guessing and wanted it on record to see how close I get this one. Still need to guess on a name…

  9. If the animation is inspired by an upcoming game, there’s a lot of possibilities there… There’s no tag for a company behind the mystery game though either, so it could be another company besides From…

  10. Looks more Bloodborne inspired if I’m choosing a From game. Gun with bayonet, masks with filtration systems, possible beast transformation, vampire allusions…

Whatever it is, it looks neat
